I hope this finds you in good health. As many students have been falling sick in school, I hope that your children will take extra care of themselves and rest well during next week's break.
As the students have the whole of next week free, I have assigned the students the following homework

2) Oral Exam Tips (Attached below, students are given a set too)
I will be with the children all the way for their SA2 and I hope you will be too.

Please take time to practise oral reading (newspapers and storybooks - with dialogue), picture description and conversation with your kids.

Phrases to be learnt (During HE Wednesday)
1. I learnt that one can never escape the arms of justice and we should always be responsible for our own actions.
2. I quickly fished out my mobile phone from my pocket and punched the numbers “999” to call for the police.
3. Within minutes, the siren of the police car followed by the ambulance filled the air.
4. The reckless driver got his license revoked and was sentenced to five years of jail.
5. The cars were in a total wreck. Glass fragments were shattered all over the road.

Thin veils of clouds hung in the sky. It was hot that even the concrete ground radiated heat. After a long day at school, I trudged home wearily, lugging my heavy backpack. My whole body ached in protest but I forced myself to go on. I could not wait to get home to the comfort of an air-conditioned room.

Sing to the Dawn Oral Presentation
Dear Students,
You are to write a script about a character from Sing to the Dawn. You will be having a 1 minute presentation on 11th July Thursday or 12th July Friday. It will be 5% of your CA2 marks.
For example:
Hi fellow friends. Today I will be Father from Sing to the Dawn. Let me tell me more about myself. Recently, I found that Dawan has won the scholarship to the City instead of Kwai. I am like a bull in a china shop. How can Dawan, a girl take the only chance from her own brother? I can’t believe it. I spoke to teacher and he said if Dawan doesn’t go, Kwai will be able to go. Of course, I want Kwai to go as he is a boy and an education will be useful for him. He can help make the village a better place. But I don’t want to hurt Dawan’s feelings. I really don’t know what to do now.

Next Tuesday, 28th May 2013, we will be walking from Mount Sinai Campus to Holland Grove Campus.
10.45am - Assemble at General Office
Pupils will be split to two groups
Those walking from
1) Ghim Moh
2) Holland Grove (Clementi, Pine Grove)
12.00pm - Reach back Mount Sinai Campus
Also, on Saturday, 20th July 2013, we will be going for the P5 NE Show. (National Day Parade Preview)
All Singaporeans and PRs have to attend this event unless you have a valid reason. Foreigners are also encouraged to join.
Timing = 1.00pm - 9.30pm (To be confirmed)

Phrases to Remember 2.0 (5 more days)
Dear Children,
There were many serious accidents that happened in Singapore this year. It will be good for you to read through this essay that I have written.
The Accident
The sun baked the ground with a vengeance. The occasional breeze had died down leaving the trees and grass to wither in the scorching heat. Jack trudged home wearily, lugging his heavy back pack. It was Jack’s last day of school for the year and he could not wait to get home to play his computer games in the comfort of an air-conditioned room.
While Jack was walking along the hectic road to head home, he heard a deafening screech followed by shrieks of terror. It was such a terrible symphony that even deaf Beethoven would be able to hear. Jack turned around and witnessed two cars colliding with each other. The cars were in a total wreck. Glass fragments were shattered all over the road.
Curiosity took the better of him and he went forth to have a closer look at the accident scene. One of the drivers was bleeding profusely with glass fragments stuck on his forehead while the other got away with other minor cuts on his forehead. A few onlookers rushed forward to help the two casualties. There was a man beside Jack who quickly fished out his phone from his pocket. To Jack’s utter astonishment, the guy was actually calling his friend to inform him about the accident. He was even laughing and joking about the tragic accident. Rage surged in Jack and he drew his breath with a long hiss. “Are you out of your mind? Can you at least do your part and inform the relevant authorities?’ Jack fumed in a loud booming voice.
Visibly embarrassed by John’s chiding, he quickly hung up on his friend and punched the numbers “999” on his mobile phone. Within minutes, the siren of the police car followed by the ambulance filled the air. Medical assistance was rendered swiftly to the injured. As eyewitnesses, the police rounded the gentleman and John for their statement.
That night, the news reported that the accident occurred as one of the drivers was beating the red light. Due to his careless act, he collided with another driver, causing the driver to lose a lot of blood which resulted in an eventual death. The reckless driver got his license revoked and was sentenced to five years of jail.
Jack learnt that one can never escape the arms of justice and we should always be responsible for our own actions. (Important!!!!)

A Tragic Accident
Dearest 5C4,
Yesterday marks a sad note for 2 boys and their family.
According to The Straits Times, "Two brothers were killed in a gruesome traffic accident in Tampines earlier on Monday.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it had received a call at around 5.43pm, and that the boys died after being hit by a truck at the junction of Tampines Ave 9 and Tampines St 45. The 13-year-old male cyclist and the 7-year-old male pillion were pronounced dead at scene by paramedics."
Please be safe and always keep a lookout while crossing the road or cycling on the street.
Can you imagine how the parents of the two boys feel? They must be devastated. Please give your parents and siblings a hug and tell them that you love them. No matter how your parents scold or nag at you at times, you must know that they care a lot for you! <:
