Phrases to Remember 2.0 (5 more days)

Dear Children,

There were many serious accidents that happened in Singapore this year. It will be good for you to read through this essay that I have written.

The Accident

The sun baked the ground with a vengeance. The occasional breeze had died down leaving the trees and grass to wither in the scorching heat. Jack trudged home wearily, lugging his heavy back pack. It was Jack’s last day of school for the year and he could not wait to get home to play his computer games in the comfort of an air-conditioned room.

While Jack was walking along the hectic road to head home, he heard a deafening screech followed by shrieks of terror. It was such a terrible symphony that even deaf Beethoven would be able to hear. Jack turned around and witnessed two cars colliding with each other. The cars were in a total wreck. Glass fragments were shattered all over the road.

Curiosity took the better of him and he went forth to have a closer look at the accident scene. One of the drivers was bleeding profusely with glass fragments stuck on his forehead while the other got away with other minor cuts on his forehead. A few onlookers rushed forward to help the two casualties. There was a man beside Jack who quickly fished out his phone from his pocket. To Jack’s utter astonishment, the guy was actually calling his friend to inform him about the accident. He was even laughing and joking about the tragic accident. Rage surged in Jack and he drew his breath with a long hiss. “Are you out of your mind? Can you at least do your part and inform the relevant authorities?’ Jack fumed in a loud booming voice.

Visibly embarrassed by John’s chiding, he quickly hung up on his friend and punched the numbers “999” on his mobile phone. Within minutes, the siren of the police car followed by the ambulance filled the air. Medical assistance was rendered swiftly to the injured. As eyewitnesses, the police rounded the gentleman and John for their statement.

That night, the news reported that the accident occurred as one of the drivers was beating the red light. Due to his careless act, he collided with another driver, causing the driver to lose a lot of blood which resulted in an eventual death. The reckless driver got his license revoked and was sentenced to five years of jail.

Jack learnt that one can never escape the arms of justice and we should always be responsible for our own actions. (Important!!!!)
